Thinking of getting a Fiat 500C?

Why buy the Fiat 500C?

The Fiat 500C is one of the most recognisable convertible city cars you can buy. It’s small, easy to drive, cost-effective and full of character. The design is current yet classic and it looks great parked on any street. Although you can’t fold the 500C’s roof completely back like you can with a traditional convertible, it gives you the feeling of an open-top car for a fraction of the price of many rivals.

Fiat 500c range and updates

The current version of the 500C has been sold new since 2020. The previous version was sold from 2015 to 2020. Stylistically the 500C remains largely the same but models from 2020 onwards have an updated engine.

The current 500C has a 1.0-litre petrol engine with mild hybrid technology. The previous version of the 500C also has petrol power and you can choose from either a 1.2-litre or a more powerful 0.9-litre ‘TwinAir’ engine. All the engines give you responsive acceleration around town but the more powerful options are better for longer journeys. Most models have a manual gearbox that’s really easy to use. If you need an automatic gearbox, some models sold until 2019 have one – Fiat calls it Dualogic.

You can choose from several trim levels including the top-grade Lounge. There are also many special-edition models, such as the Riva, which feature eye-catching colour schemes and extra equipment.

Fiat 500c tech and features

The current 500C comes with a touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity, DAB radio and Bluetooth. Other features include air con and electric windows, and top-spec models also give you sat nav and cruise control. Some older models don’t have the touchscreen but are still well equipped for a city car.

Fiat 500C running costs and value

The 500C is a small city car that’s inexpensive to run. The TwinAir petrol model is the most fuel-efficient, giving you an average of 74mpg, according to official figures. The 1.2-litre model is the least efficient, but it still manages a very healthy 60mpg. Road tax and insurance costs are low, as well.

Fiat 500C vs rivals

Other convertible city cars such as the 500C include the Mini Convertible and Smart ForTwo. The 500C is a characterful option that gives you timeless retro style, a fun driving experience and low running costs.
