Thinking of getting a Peugeot 3008?

Why buy the Peugeot 3008?

The Peugeot 3008 is a very stylish mid-size SUV with a choice of fuel-efficient engines, including a plug-in hybrid option (PHEV). The 3008 gives you a smooth, comfortable ride and a spacious interior that’s beautifully designed: the big boot just adds to its appeal. This car’s all-round quality and breadth of model choice make it a great family car.

Peugeot 3008 range and updates

The current Peugeot 3008 has been on sale since 2016 and was updated in 2020 with refreshed looks and a few technical upgrades. The previous 3008 was a very different car – a far less stylish, but very practical, MPV. Here we’re focusing on the latest SUV model.

The trim levels for early 3008s started with Active, though it was replaced by Active Premium. Next up are Allure, GT Line and GT trims. A GT Premium trim was introduced in 2018 and GT Line models were discontinued at the end of 2021. An Allure Premium model is also available.

A plug-in hybrid arrived late in 2018, promising up to 30 miles of electric-only driving. In late 2019, two more plug-in hybrids were introduced, one with four-wheel drive and promising up to 40 miles per battery charge.

A new, all-electric version called the e-3008 is scheduled to go on sale in late 2023.

Peugeot 3008 tech and features

You get lots of features included as standard, even in the least expensive Peugeot 3008 model. Entry-level Allure trim is well equipped with alloy wheels, a moveable boot floor, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera. As you go higher in the trim levels, additional features include larger alloy wheels, sat nav and LED headlights.

Higher-spec Peugeot 3008s have keyless entry and start, a wireless charging pad for your phone and even an interior fragrance system to keep things smelling nice. All models have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto to connect your smartphone to the infotainment system.

Peugeot 3008 running costs and value

The Peugeot 3008 has a range of impressively efficient petrol and diesel engines as well as some plug-in hybrid options. The diesel engines are best if you’re after maximum fuel economy, promising between 57mpg and 70mpg according to official figures. The petrol engines, meanwhile, should give you between 46mpg and 51mpg, depending on the model.

All models have front-wheel drive, with one exception: the most powerful plug-in hybrid option – the Hybrid4 300 – uses two electric motors to power the back wheels, and a petrol engine to power the front wheels. That’s useful if you live in an area prone to slippery surfaces.

The PHEV could also save you money on fuel, if you have somewhere to plug it in and keep the battery topped up. That way, you could run short-ish journeys on electric power only, burning no fuel. However, once the battery power runs out, you’re basically left with a rather heavy petrol car, which won’t be as efficient. If you do mostly long journeys, it might not be your best option.

Peugeot 3008 vs rivals

If you’re considering buying a Peugeot 3008 you might also want to check out the Kia Sportage, which has a seven-year warranty and is also a very decent car all-round. The Nissan Qashqai is also a popular and solid choice, but doesn’t have the style or boot space of the Peugeot. The Hyundai Tucson beats the 3008 for boot space, though, and also offers a PHEV model.

One thing the 3008 can’t offer – yet – is pure electric power. For a zero-emissions mid-size SUV, you’ll need to look at cars like the Nissan Ariya, the Skoda Enyaq iV or the Hyundai Ioniq 5. A fully electric e-3008 is set for release by the end of 2023.
